Recently a number of close friends of mine have been reading The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I am always skeptical of mystical journeys but this story was inspired by Borges’ Tale of Two Dreamers. You can’t get more deep and more intellectual than Borges…Having long been obsessed with all things Andalucian, I remember really being pierced by this book when it first came out in 1993. I was an avid young reader!
Anyway, I am writing because I am recently reminded of this book and its life lessons. I’ve been having conversations about it with people that I most ultimately adore. One friend in particular reminded me that my current bbm name “it is written” is present in the book. Ah! Full circle moments of knowing and being….
Somethings continue to rise to the surface, sometimes new meaning can be found in old loves, sometimes new strength comes in shapes never seen but are stangely recognizable…Sometimes you travel far to learn that your journey is right here. Sometimes you turn away from love only to find it still firmly planted at your feet.
“Maktub is an alchemist term (arabic word) which literally means it is written. From mystical point of view, it points to the fact that whatever happens is already known to the One. It signifies that Destiny exists. It points its finger to the fact that everything is already known to God.”culled from: http://mysticsaint.blogspot.com/2006/06/maktub-what-does-it-mean-that.html
