Doris Salcedo’s Stacked Chairs

Colombian sculptor Doris Salcedo stacked over 1,550 chairs  in an empty lot between two buildings for the 2003 International Instanbul Biennale. White Cube says “Doris Salcedo makes sculptures and installations that function as political and mental archaeology, using domestic materials charged with significance and suffused with meanings accumulated over years of use in everyday life.”  I love the idea of mental archeaology. So mental!
